One of the activities I use to review vocabulary with my students is brainstorming the words they remember (up to 15) without giving the meaning. I write the words on the right side of the board. Then I ask them to choose one word and give its meaning in Arabic without saying which word it is. I write the Arabic translation on the left side of the board. When all words and translations are written, I ask them to match which word goes with which translation. Every word they match I delete the English word and leave the translation. After all words are deleted and only translations are left I ask them to try and remember the English word now and to write each word next to its translation on the board, in this way I also review and check spelling which is problematic.
Students like this activity a lot and find it very helpful to learn words and spelling. They find it a very useful review before a vocabulary test.
In addition they like writing on the board a lot!
